STEP 1

Choose your niche and target audience

To earn income through blogging, focus on a profitable niche with a large audience. This approach enhances your chances of success and financial returns from your blog.

This crucial step sets the foundation for your entire blogging journey.

Your blog’s niche is like a guiding star in the vast blogging galaxy. It serves as the focal point that defines your audience and shapes your entire blogging strategy.

While it may be tempting to explore multiple topics, it’s important to remember that focusing on a specific niche can create a dedicated following. This, in turn, leads to a consistent flow of traffic and engaged readers for your blog.

STEP 1: Here's How to Find Your Perfect Niche:

Three ways to help you find your niche:
1. Your interest and passion matter.
2. Identify market demand.
3. Expertise is not mandatory.

Click here to jump to the next step.

Choose a Topic You're Passionate About:

Blogging becomes a delightful journey when you write about something you genuinely love. Whether it’s your hobbies, interests, or a subject you’re eager to learn more about, approaching it with passion can truly ignite the magic in your content.

Identifying Market Demand:

It’s essential to ensure that your chosen niche has enough audience interest. Utilize tools like Google Trends to gauge search volumes and social media buzz around keywords related to your niche, revealing the popularity and potential engagement.

Expertise Is Not Mandatory:

Although having expertise in your niche has its advantages, it’s not an absolute requirement to create compelling content. Don’t be afraid to embrace your unique perspective and curiosity. These qualities can actually enhance the quality of your content and make it more captivating for your audience.

STEP 2

Pick a relevant and engaging domain name

Your domain name is the face of your blog, shaping its identity and making a lasting impression.

It goes beyond being a name; it also serves as the unique web address or URL for your blog. For instance, our own domain name is www.tagblogger.com.

Selecting the right domain name is crucial for your blog’s success. It’s the first thing visitors see and impacts your brand. Follow these tips for a memorable and relevant domain name.

STEP 2: Tips for Choosing an Engaging Domain Name for Your Blog:

Here are some practical tips for choosing the right domain name:
1. Know your blog's purpose and audience.
2. Keep it short and simple.
3. Use relevant keywords.
4. Make it brandable.
5. Check for availability and trademarks.
6. Use the .com extension or a TLD.
7. Avoid Hyphens.

Click here to jump to the next step.

Know Your Blog's Purpose and Audience:

Understand your blog’s focus and who is your target audience. This helps you pick a domain name that resonates with them.

Keep It Short and Simple:

Choose a concise and easy-to-remember name. Avoid complicated spellings, numbers, or hyphens.

Use Relevant Keywords:

Incorporate keywords that reflect your blog’s content for better SEO.

Make It Brandable:

Create a unique and brandable name that sets your blog apart.

Check Availability and Trademarks:

Search to see if your domain is available and verify that it does not infringe on any existing trademarks.

Use the .Com Extension or a TLD:

While “.com” is popular, other extensions like “.net” or “.org” can work well too.

Avoid Hyphens:

Domains with hyphens have gained a negative reputation among the majority of people, creating a false impression that the associated website is untrustworthy.

A relevant and engaging domain name boosts your blog’s success. Take your time, find the perfect name, and make your mark in the blogging world.

Use tools such as Lean Domain Search and Panabee to brainstorm ideas for your blog name.

  1. Ownership and Control: You gain exclusive ownership of it. No one else can claim or take it away from you. This level of control allows you to shape your domain exactly as you desire, presenting yourself as a committed and professional marketer.
  2. Increasing Value: Similar to real estate, as you build and develop your website, your domain’s value will likely appreciate over time. A well-established and reputable domain can become a valuable digital asset.
  3. Better Search Engine Rankings: Improve your website’s search engine rankings on popular platforms like Google, Bing, and Yahoo, which collectively dominate about 99% of all online searches.

if your name is Sarah, a domain like (sarahsblogs.com) would be suitable.

  1. For personal blogs where you are the sole blogger, it is ideal to have a domain with your first name followed by your surname. This approach allows for quick adjustments in case any issues arise within your chosen niche.
  2. For a professional blog with multiple contributors and the focus is on your brand, it is important to choose a domain name that accurately represents your brand.
  1. Be confident about the niche you choose. This ensures that your domain remains relevant and meaningful to your content.
  2. It is advisable to avoid using words that may come across as scammy. For example, in the ‘make money online’ niche, it is best to refrain from selecting domain names such as easycash.com, richquick.net, free money.org, or anything that might be perceived as unprofessional. Making such choices may result in rejection by your audience.

STEP 3

Find a host to get your blog online

Just like you rent a house or a shop, to start a blog, you need to rent space for your website on the World Wide Web.

Now, the authority that lends you that space is called a hosting provider. In other words, a hosting provider makes space for your website on the web server.

💡 You won’t believe that currently, the market size of the web hosting industry is valued at $56 billion. To add to that, there are thousands of web hosting providers.

It took me years of practical implementation to identify some of the best solutions.

My top recommendations:

#1. Hostinger (my hosting provider for the last 5 years)
#2. GreenGeeks
#3. SiteGround

Google analyzes websites based on certain metrics. A web hosting provider must be compliant with these so that you can fight for your ranking on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

If you choose a web hosting that does not provide ideal uptime and speed, then it can not only affect your ranking but also force your visitors to leave the blog.

STEP 3: Your Hosting and Domain Registration

It's time to take the important step of setting up your hosting.
  1. Go to Hostinger and click Claim Deal Button.
  2. Choose between the Premium 0r Business Plan.
  3. Select a monthly payment plan (48 months to save big).
  4. Enter your email address to create an account.

Click here to jump to the next step.

Why Choose Hostinger?

I use Hostinger for the last 5 years:

I host all of my websites on Hostinger and have never experienced any issues.

Here are some of the reasons why I highly recommend Hostinger:

  • LiteSpeed Caching: Great features for faster website speed.

  • Free Domain for one year: Choose from a wide range of TLDs including .com and .net.
  • SSH Access provides a secure and encrypted connection to your server.

Now, go ahead and create your account with Hostinger. Set up your blog on a fast and reliable server, which will enable you to confidently take the next step.

Congratulations on Your Brand New Website!

🎆 Now, let’s dive into the exciting work ahead!

Make sure to keep this URL handy: it will serve as your gateway to the website’s backend moving forward. Therefore, it’s essential to have it bookmarked for easy access.

Here’s the URL: https://www.[YourDomain].com/wp-admin

Happy blogging!

Before Moving to the Next Step

Let’s make some adjustments to the general settings of your website.

Navigate to Settings > General in the sidebar.

Update WordPress and Site Address:

Replace the previous http://www.yourdomain.com with https://yourdomain.com, taking advantage of the additional ‘S’ you gained by setting up your SSL certificate provided by Hostinger.

Remember to save your changes. Keep in mind that you may be temporarily logged out due to the URL modification. If this happens, simply log back in.

Configuring Permalinks:

Next, click on Permalinks and make sure to select “Post Name“.
This selection ensures that the URLs of your site stay clean and concise, avoiding any strange or lengthy combinations.

Typically, ‘Post Name’ is the default setting, but it’s a good practice to double-check, as future updates could potentially alter this configuration.

Managing Reading Settings

During the process of fine-tuning your website, it is wise to prevent premature indexing by search engines such as Google.

To prevent this, navigate to the “Reading” section and find the option that says “Discourage search engines from indexing this site.” Select this option to prevent search engines from indexing your website during the development phase.

Remember to uncheck this option later when you’re ready to launch your site to the public!

STEP 5

Personalise your blog

Now is the time to create your blog and customize it to align seamlessly with your chosen niche and brand.

Consider taking a different approach to building your blog. Instead of using a standard WordPress theme, I highly recommend using a page builder.

This will give you more flexibility and a wide range of functions, making it much easier to create your dream blog, especially if you are new to blogging.

STEP 5: Personalise Your Blog

It is time to give your blog a professional and unique appearance.
  1. Login to your website dashboard.

STEP 8

Promote Your Blog

Designing a visually appealing blog and crafting compelling content is just the first step toward success.

To effectively attract visitors to your blog, it is crucial to dedicate time to promotion, particularly in the early stages.

Actively promoting your blog can make a significant difference in establishing a strong online presence. It’s not only about reaching your current audience but also expanding your reach to new and untapped audiences.

Optimize Your Blog for Search Engines - Understand the basics of SEO

By strategically optimizing your content, you can significantly enhance its visibility on search engines such as Google.

This means that when users search for relevant keywords and phrases, your website will appear near the top of the search results, driving more organic traffic to your site.

1. Keywords Placement:

  • Title Tag: Incorporate your target keyword naturally within the title tag. Make sure it accurately reflects the content of your page and entices users to click.
  • Headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.): Use headings to structure your content and improve readability. Include your main keyword in the H1 tag (main heading) and utilize H2 and H3 tags for subheadings and sections, where relevant.
  • Introduction and Body: Introduce your main keyword in the opening paragraph and throughout the body of your content. Ensure that the keyword flows naturally and makes sense within the context.

2. Keyword Related Words (LSI Keywords):

  • LSI Keywords: These are words and phrases closely related to your main keyword. Incorporating LSI keywords throughout your content helps search engines understand the topic’s context.
  • Variations and Synonyms: Use variations and synonyms of your main keyword to diversify your content. This not only enhances SEO but also provides a better user experience.

3. Meta Description:

  • Meta Description: Write a compelling meta description that includes your target keyword. This brief description appears in search results and influences whether users click on your link.

4. Image Optimization:

  • Image Alt Tags: When using images, include descriptive alt tags that incorporate your keywords. This not only helps visually impaired users but also provides additional context to search engines.

5. URL Structure:

  • URL Optimization: Create descriptive and clean URLs that include your target keyword. Avoid using lengthy or cryptic URLs; instead, opt for concise, relevant URLs.

6. Internal and External Links:

  • Internal Links: Link to other relevant pages within your website using descriptive anchor text. This enhances navigation and encourages users to explore more of your content.
  • External Links: Include authoritative external links to credible sources that support your content. This signals to search engines that your content is well-researched and informative.

7. Mobile-Friendly Design:

  • Mobile Optimization: Ensure your website is responsive and mobile-friendly. Google prioritizes mobile-friendly sites in its search results.

8. User Experience and Readability:

  • Engaging Content: Create informative, engaging, and valuable content that keeps users on your page longer. Search engines recognize user engagement as a positive ranking factor.
  • Readability: Use concise paragraphs, bullet points, and subheadings to improve readability. This enhances user experience and encourages longer page visits.
  •
Leverage Social Media: Connect and Share

By effectively leveraging social media platforms, you can amplify your blog’s reach and engage with potential readers in meaningful ways.

Here’s a deeper look at how you can make the most of social media to connect, share, and drive traffic to your blog:

1. Social Profiles: Optimize Your Presence

  • Consistent Branding: Maintain a cohesive visual identity across all your social media profiles. Use your blog’s logo, colors, and design elements to create a recognizable brand presence.
  • Clear Descriptions: Craft compelling and concise bios that convey your blog’s focus and value proposition. Use relevant keywords in your profiles to enhance discoverability.

2. Engaging Content: Share and Interact

  • Attention-Grabbing Snippets: Create captivating snippets or excerpts from your blog posts that spark curiosity and encourage clicks. These snippets should provide a glimpse of the value your content offers.
  • Visual Appeal: Incorporate eye-catching visuals, such as images or graphics, to accompany your snippets. Visual content tends to attract more attention and shares.
  • Hashtags: Research and include relevant hashtags in your social media posts. Hashtags enhance discoverability, enabling users interested in similar topics to find your content.
  • Call to Action (CTA): Include a clear and compelling CTA in your social media posts. Encourage users to click, read, share, or engage with your content.

3. Optimal Posting Times: Timing is Key

  • Audience Insights: Study your target audience to understand their online habits and peak activity times on different social platforms.
  • Scheduling Tools: Utilize social media management tools to schedule your posts for optimal times. These tools enable you to maintain a consistent posting schedule even during off-hours.

4. Engagement and Interaction: Foster Relationships

  • Respond Promptly: Monitor comments, messages, and mentions on your social posts. Respond promptly to user interactions to nurture engagement and build relationships.
  • Ask Questions: Pose thought-provoking questions or polls to initiate conversations with your followers. Encourage them to share their thoughts and experiences.
  • User-Generated Content: Encourage your followers to share their experiences related to your blog’s niche. Repost user-generated content to showcase a sense of community.

5. Cross-Promotion and Collaborations: Expand Reach

  • Collaborate with Influencers: Partner with influencers or bloggers in your niche for joint promotions, takeovers, or collaborations. Their followers may become interested in your content as well.
  • Guest Posts: Write guest posts for other bloggers in exchange for a mention and link back to your blog. This cross-promotion can introduce your content to new audiences.

6. Data Analysis and Adaptation: Measure Success

  • Analytics Tools: Use social media analytics tools to track the performance of your posts. Identify which types of content, hashtags, and posting times resonate best with your audience.
  • Adapt and Improve: Based on your analysis, refine your social media strategy. Experiment with different approaches and content formats to continually enhance engagement and visibility.

By optimizing your social media profiles, you can effectively connect with your audience, extend your blog’s reach, and drive traffic to your site.

Engage in Online Communities and Forums
  • Engaging in online communities and forums can be a powerful strategy for promoting your blog and establishing a strong online presence.
  • By actively participating in relevant communities and forums within your niche or industry, you have the opportunity to subtly promote your blog without resorting to spamming tactics.
  • When participating in these communities, promote your blog with authenticity and provide valuable content. Offer valuable insights and contribute helpful information that aligns with the interests of the community members.
  • By establishing yourself as a knowledgeable and trustworthy contributor within online communities, you can naturally attract attention to your blog. As other members become familiar with your expertise and the value you provide, they will be more likely to visit your blog for further insights and information.
  • Begin your journey towards recognition by becoming an active member of our forum and sharing your valuable insights as a contributor. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your expertise and establish a reputation within our community.

STEP 9

Monetize it Effectively & Make Money

Now that you have ideas on how to increase traffic and gain more followers, let’s explore a few ways to start monetizing your blog.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing enables you to promote third-party products and earn a commission on sales. The process involves incorporating tracked affiliate links into your blog or website.

Each time someone clicks on the link and makes a purchase, you receive a small commission.

When it comes to recommending products and services, I believe in leading by example. By personally using and trusting them for their exceptional quality. It’s always wise to base your recommendations on firsthand experience and ensure that others can benefit from the same level of trustworthiness.

Make sure to add your affiliate disclaimer at the top of each article to keep it legal and avoid trouble.

To become an affiliate, you have the option to join various network platforms that host companies seeking affiliates. If there is a specific company you would like to promote, reach out to them and inquire about the possibility of joining their affiliate program.

Some companies have an affiliate program that is linked to the footer of their main website.

Affiliate Marketing Platforms/ Networks:

  • ShareASale is one of the most popular marketing network platforms for finding products and services to promote in any niche.
  • ClickBank is an online marketing platform that allows you to find and promote digital products in various niches, including Internet Marketing, Health, and Self Development. It is free to join and offers instant affiliate approval.

If you are looking for a comprehensive training program that equips you with all the necessary tools to start an affiliate marketing business from scratch, I highly recommend exploring the Ambassador Program.

Add Banners to Your Blog

These function similarly to affiliate links but are more noticeable. Banners serve as advertisements for products or services offered by companies.

If your blog receives a high volume of traffic, you have the opportunity to sell banner space and earn a decent return. For beginner bloggers, I recommend utilizing Google AdSense.

AdSense offers two payment models:

  • CPC (cost per click) and CPM (cost per thousand impressions). With CPC, you receive a small fee for each click the ad receives.
  • On the other hand, CPM pays you for every 1000 impressions of the ad.

As your blog grows and attracts more traffic, you can consider moving to other ad management services such as Mediavine.

Create and Sell Your Own Digital Product!

If you have confidence in your market, one lucrative way to make money is by selling courses or tips in the form of an eBook. While creating an eBook is relatively easy, it can be time-consuming.

To create a successful eBook, you will need a minimum of 25 pages of content on a persuasive topic that is in high demand. Once you have your eBook, you can sell it multiple times on your blog, maximizing its potential for generating revenue.

As a blogger, there are several other digital products you can create to enhance your online presence:

  1. Membership Sites: These subscription-based platforms allow you to offer exclusive training materials and build a community around your niche.
  2. Online Courses: Share your knowledge and expertise by creating virtual classes in audio, video, or text format. This allows you to educate your audience on specific topics and provide valuable insights. Remember, diversifying your digital products can help you engage with your audience in different ways and monetize your blog effectively.
  3. Photography: Upload and sell your high-quality photos on stock image sites or directly from your blog.
  4. Printables: Explore a wide range of planners, organizers, and calendars that you can easily print and use.

Starting a blog opens up a world of possibilities for generating income. There are countless opportunities available to monetize your blog and turn it into a profitable venture.

  • If you are a painter, you can be commissioned to work;
  • If you are a stylist, you can sell your shirts;
  • If you make costume jewelry, you can sell your creations;
  • If you are a webmaster, you can sell your services.
  • Furthermore, an incredible market is that of consultancy.

To Wrap It Up!

My strategy for monetizing a blog is not only highly efficient but also ethically sound. It offers a clear and effective path to success in this regard.

  • Study the market;
  • Create a professional blog;
  • Exercise good influence;
  • Amaze readers with sensational content;
  • Create a relationship with readers and make them support your work.

I understand that you may be feeling overwhelmed right now. However, let’s approach the situation with a bit of humor.

Remember the saying, “How does a snake eat an elephant?

One bite at a time!”

It’s a reminder to break down big tasks into smaller, manageable steps.

Trust me, it’s not that hard.

Once you get into it, you’ll figure out the formula, and things will become much easier.

The only way to experience the satisfaction of completing the puzzle is to keep pushing forward.
